“San Francisco Airport (Pt. 1)”

Thoughts of airport security may ramp up some emotions you had no idea existed, but this fun poem by Teri Sue, a TCK raising TCKs, will brighten your day.

San Francisco Airport (Pt. 1)
by Teri Sue

The security officer grabs our bags,
"You don't have to take those electronics out here. Where'd you all come from?"

We tell him Taiwan and he jokes about stinky tofu.
He is happy to chat with us as we place our bags in bins, waiting our turn to go through the scanner.

"I gotta come out sometime!" He says as we are about to go through.
"Anytime!" We reply, "You can stay with us!"

This is the way it is,
We are immediately friends with anyone helping us travel
from one home across the sea,
to another.

"Come anytime,"
We'd be so very happy to see you,
on the other side of the sea.

Teri grew up in Taichung, Taiwan after moving from the United States when she was 5 years old. As an adult she returned to Taiwan to live with her two daughters. She works with TCK’s in a school environment.
