Goodbye 2026!

The time has come to end this year with a final post from our editor, MaDonna Maurer. This is her last week as editor. She has a few words to share.

Dear AW Readers,

This marks the last post of 2026, but also my last week as editor for Among Worlds. Two years ago, I received an email from a former editor wondering if I would be interested in this position. I hesitated. Not because of the editing part, but because I am not an ATCK. I am married to one. I have raised three of them. And I do work with TCKs and their families. However, I have always felt that Among Worlds is a sacred place for TCKs to share their stories, and that the editor should be someone who can relate well to those who submit their work.

I agreed to temporarily take over the editor position. I had two main goals. First, it was to be consistent in posting once a week. The second was to hear from a diverse group of people. I did not do everything perfectly, and I learned a lot from my mistakes. However, I can honestly say that I did it to the best of my ability, and I’m thankful for the lessons and for how many of you have continued to come back and read and comment on all the social media outlets.

I am so grateful to all of the writers who have submitted their personal essays and articles. I’m thankful for the poets who took the time to craft words that express the deep emotions felt by so many. And the artwork that was submitted. I will never forget how those pieces of art shared the challenging aspects of living between worlds. I have had the opportunity to work with some incredible writers and artists, and that has been a privilege for me.

Many of you have written to let us know that you miss the physical copy of the magazine, and some have asked if we would consider republishing it in a physical form again. Sadly, due to the cost, it is not possible. But the new-to-be editor, Mika Stone, and I are working on a project that we hope you will be excited about. We have been gathering the top posts from previous years and will showcase them in a physical book later this spring. So, be on the lookout for that information.

Thank you for allowing me to bring to your screens stories, poems, and art that were inspired by ATCKs. It has been my joy and privilege to help continue to provide space for stories. I expect great things from Among Worlds in the future and look forward to seeing more well-articulated posts and awe-inspiring art.

Thank you!

MaDonna Maurer
